This report is about Britain before the Roman conquest conquered it and when it was still occupied by the Romans. The first part is Britain before the conquest; the second part is a history of important events from the first Roman invasion till the withdrawal of the Roman legions; the third part is about an archeological site about Roman Britain; and the last part is about what life would have been like for the Britains under Roman rule.

Before Britain was ruled by Rome all the people there were different tribes. The lower part of Britain was lowlands where tribes grew crops to live off of, while the upper part was highlands where it was less used for crops and the tribes lived off of milk and meat according to a second hand report by Caesar they also wore skins. The people of Britain were the Celtics and Belgic people from Belgium. The land had many hardwoods such as beech and oak. They grew peas, beans and corn there also. They dried their corn in kilns for winter.

In 43 A.D. Britain was first invaded by Emperor Claudius which was commanded by Aulus Plautius. Romans took over the country as part of their empire. They enforced Roman laws and Roman taxes upon the people there. Caratacus a barbarian chieftan with his tribe were defeated in 51 AD whom resisted but were defeated. Queen Boudicca led a revolt upon the Romans in 61 A.D. It was quelled and she was defeated. Fishbourne palace is built near Chichester in 75 AD. 78-84 Argicola governor of Roman Britain. Agricola campaigned into Scotland. Retreated from Scotland and built Hadrian’s Wall. Raids on Britain’s frontiers by Saxon pirates which causes them to build Roman forts at the shores to attempt to keep them out. 367 AD Scots attacked the northern half of Briatin because of problems within the empire made less soldiers available in Britain. 409 last legion pulled out of Britain.

The archaeological site that was chosen for this is the Fishbourne palace site. Fishbourne palace was first found by accident by some people digging a water main back in 1960. The before it was a temple it was a military base because of the Romans invading, at the turn of the century it was turned into a palace. The palace stood for two centuries.
