Reflection Paper on APEC Summit 2015

1. ‘The Megatrends that are Driving New Consumer Demands’

 Josette Sheeran, President, Asia Society

1. “Opportunity is coming in ways that one could not have felt in the past
2. In our everyday life, we always see opportunities and yes that’s true. We always see opportunities but we don’t have the courage to grab it. “Coming on to the global scene” as what Ms Josette stated, I now think that Asia can now rise up from poverty.
3. For me, I want to have a brighter future so that I can give opportunities to people who doesn’t have any jobs and I would also like to motivate them to grab opportunities when opportunity comes knocking on their door.

1. ‘Uber’s Response to New Consumer Demands’

David Plouffe, Senior Advisor, Uber Technologies, Inc

1. “if we could get more people sharing rides and less people driving themselves, the concept of uberpool is rather me ordering an uber and sitting in the backseat of the car and going to my destination alone, I can choose to share the ride.”
2. I really like this idea about uberpool that can lessen  the traffic problems all over the world  especially in the Philippines. But I think they should have  to think of what will happen. Especially here in the Philippines . bad people tend to use new technologies to steal or to kill. Yes we can’t escape that reality. We call it “Modus”. They should think of something that is not risky for us passenger and not to ruin their image aswell.
3. I would like to suggest: what if in every family, they are only allowed to have 1 car. I think this might help the problem. But yes I know. This needs to have a long investigation and testing whether the suggestion helps or not.

1. “Always be Positive and don’t be afraid of Failure”
2. Being positive can bring good things in your life. But life is not perfect. There will always be failure. Let us not be afraid of failure because we can learn new things if we fail. Don’t be embarrassed if you think that you fail. At least, you tried your best while doing it. There will always be no success if you never tried to fail.
3. If given the opportunity or chance to teach, I would really motivate my students not to be afraid to fail. I will not scold them if they failed because I myself know that they can learn from their experience.

1. “Pursue your passion and your dreams”
2. I would agree to this. Why? It is because if you love the course that you yourself chose, 100% guaranteed that you will love the work after. It is best when you love the work in the first place rather than trying to love the work that you yourself don’t even want on the first place.
3. Honestly, I didn’t choose this course. I was forced by my parents to have a degree in business since they are practical enough to see how the future works. I wanted to be on the medical field, It may be nursing or medtech or radtech. But since they won’t let me, I promised to myself that after graduating, I would pursue my dream and make it a reality.

1. “We were rejected by 42 venture capital firms but we didn’t give up”
2. Mr. Jonathan stated they were scared because they ran out of money. We can’t really escape reality. There will always be acceptance and its opposite, rejection. It has been a part of our life since we were kids. I don’t think anyone does not face rejection every day. The best way is to learn from rejection. It might help you by doing the things that you didn’t do during the proposal or something.
3. I would really encourage everyone to embrace acceptance as well as failure and rejection.  And the best way to accept failure is to make it a starting point to do better and enhance yourself so  you won’t fail again.

1. “what happens on Social Media is only in the tip of an ice berg, a game changer, playing your emotions and rewiring your brain”
2. Yes this is true. What happens in the social media is it only shows the top storyline and we users don’t even know the deep meaning or reasons about the said post on social medias. You may see it bad and also good at the same time.
3. We should not post our daily doings on social media since every one, honestly, are judgmental. Yes. I don’t think that no one is judgmental. So if you don’t want to be judged, stop posting everything.

1. “we don’t have money to buy computers so we brought our computers from home and we didn’t even have money to buy lunch so we had to bring baon”
2. This really hits me a lot. i consider myself not rich since we still have some difficulties when it comes to financial due to product increase. I am really inspired that they started their business for on 62,000 and ended up successfully.
3. I consider Xurpass as an inspiration. We all start from scratch just like the company did. I myself don’t want to become an employee but rather an employer. Striving hard can get you success. So we need to do our best in order to fulfill our dreams and make it a reality.

   Angelo Umali, Co-Founder and CEO, Simple Wearables

1. “Building a company taught me a lot of things. Entrepreneurship will demand everything you’ve got to give and that won’t be enough. You will need the help of everyone around you – family, friends, community”
2. This quote really struck me. He was the only speaker who was able to say that everyone needs the help especially their family. Yes this is true. You need support from everyone around you and it would be very grateful if your family supports you as well.
3. If given the chance, I would really motivate and support my family if they are willing to do something, it may or may not be business. If they need my support, I would be glad to support and motivate them.

   Scott Anthony, Managing Partner, Innosight

1. “we have to think about employment as well, millions of employees will be changed by robots”
2. I think this might happen as well. With the continuous grow of technologies, everything can be a possibility. And this is also one of the reason why I am scared of the future.
3. We should give opportunities to other people who needs job for them to sustain their families daily needs.

   Karen Reddington, President, FedEx Asia Pacific

1.  “Simple matters can make a world of difference”
2. Yes this is true. No matter how small you have, it may be money,or ideas or whatever, as long as you make the most out of it, it can and will make a difference.
3. If you know to yourself that what you are doing right now can make a change, then do it. No one will stop you as long as it is legal. Be positive and be created as well. Don’t let others think that you are useless. Shout out whats on your mind. And someday you might change the world.
