What am I trying to learn?

I am interested in the history of the Holocaust. Many people know about the Jews and the Holocaust but the Gypsies were victims as well. What I want to learn is the effect the Holocaust had on the Gypsies.

Who were the Gypsies?

The Gypsies who were also known as the Roma people were said to derive from the Egyptian origin because of their name. The Gypsies were to come

from the northwestern region of India.

Why Did the Nazis choose the Gypsies?

The Gypsies were a targeted group for persecution. The Germans had their own reasons for persecuting them, Although Gypsies are Aryan the Germans of Hitler time, and the Nazis in particular, did not look at the Gypsies as Aryans. Just because of their race Gypsies were chosen to be denied of privileges and annihilated.

How did the Gypsies Suffer?

Like the Jews, the Gypsies were denied certain privileges such as owning businesses. Also like the Jews the Gypsies were relocated into concentration camps like Dachau or Auschwitz. Lastly and most importantly the Gypsies were killed.

How many Gypsies were killed in the Holocaust?

There is not much information about the Gypsy victims of the Holocaust. There are many different numbers that say from 500,00 to 600,000 were

killed but other numbers say that only 200,000 were killed. No matter the number an significant amount died and hopefully not in vain.

The Difference

Many of the Jews and the Gypsies suffered some of the same torment there were some differences. The Gypsies torture was a more vulgar. For example, the children were tested on with various drugs.
