Why Santa Doesn’t Exist

Its winter and holiday season is upon us. For most people this means last minute shopping for gifts, unless you are a child and believe it’s actually Santa Clause who will deliver the presents to your Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Those of us, who know better, that Santa doesn’t exist, try not to spoil the fun for little kids. The question still arises as to whether Santa still exists or not. A child would definitely say yes, but those of us who say no, don’t know the scientific reasons as to why Santa cannot exits, and the reason there is no such thing as magic’ does not count. There are quite a few reasons as to why it’s impossible for Santa to exist and I’ll explore them.

Let’s start with the basics. Who has ever heard of a flying reindeer? That is preposterous. Although there are at least 300,000 of species not yet classified the likelihood of a flying reindeer being one of them is extremely slim. However it cannot be ruled completely because of even the smallest chance.

If we define a child as anyone under the age of 18 then there are approximately 2 billion children on Earth. Since Christmas is a Christian holiday its safe to assume Santa will only visit Christian kids thus cutting down the number of kids to 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. The average number of kids per household is 3, assuming there is at least one good kid in each household that makes almost 92 million homes that Santa has to visit. Now thanks to different time zones Santa has a total of 31 hours in which he has to visit all 92 million households and drop off presents along with eating the cookies and milk left for him. This works out to around 824 houses per second. This translates to 0.0012 seconds per house in which time he must get out of the sleigh, deliver the present (through the chimney of course), and get back in the sleigh. That is not even counting the snack he usually eats when given.

Another element to this is the distance he would have to travel. Assuming the 92 million households are spread around the Earth (not totally accurate for arguments sake) that makes it 1.25km between each household. This makes the total trip 115000000km which he has 31 hours to complete not counting stops for washroom break. His sled would have to travel at a speed of 1030km/sec to finish within 31 hours. Now the speed of sound is roughly 0.340km/sec therefore the sleigh would be traveling 3029 times the speed of sound. A conventional reindeer can only run at 24km/h, which is not nearly enough speed.

Another interesting element is
