Why I Read & Write

I read and write because it helps me get outside my self and is a stress-free escape from reality. Reading and writing allows you to become immersed in another world, and helps me expand my imagination. It helps me find spiritual enrichment and expand my worldview. It can stimulate every one of your senses. It forces me to actively use my imagination to interpret the work of another person's imagination or even my own. When I read something engaging and challenging it gives me a sense of contentment. The more I read, the more I find myself wanting to find even more books to read. Reading and writing are like an addicting, once you get hooked, it’s almost impossible to stop.

Reading can give me the opportunity to engage with not only the wider world, but with the centuries of cultures and ideas that have been dwelling in the past. It allows me to look into these historical worlds with an open mind and potentially gain knowledge on issues that effects us. I write to experience the adventures I normally can't in everyday life. Let's face it, life can be a bit drab sometimes. However, in the world of books and free writing, it can be an adventure. So when I write, I put pieces of myself into each character, and write the story I would want to live. I write because my mind drifts to daydreams and eventually leads to stories. The characters and plots become 'real' in my mind and I start to feel actual emotions from imagining them. I feel the need to get those stories and characters out of my brain, and onto paper. It's such a pleasure to go back and revisit them later, to re-live it all over again. I write because I can live anywhere and be anyone when I write. It is interesting to explore different characters and even to figure out that the character you wrote is nothing like you.
