One of the most vivid memories I have from my childhood would have to be when I first met my stepmother. It was the summer of 94'; I was five going on six with no real mother figure. After I was born my mother had a bad encounter with drugs, so she was in a drug rehab program throughout my childhood. My grandmother was back and forth from New York to Barbados. I was living in a house with three boys including my father. I was a tomboy and I needed help.

So one hot day in July, my father introduces me to a woman who little did I know would be my future step mother and be the biggest influence in my life. The day that I met her was so unforgettable. I always thought from books that I've read, that a stepmother was a mean ugly lady, but I was wrong. She was wearing this very conservative business suit and she had the greatest smile I've ever seen in my 6 years on earth. I remember her saying "My name is Bird" I responded "Like the birds in the sky?" She would say "Yea" and smile. Even though I was a little girl and didn't know much, I knew she would be everything I would be looking for in a mother.

Bird would come by three to four times a week to see my father and at the same time help me with my homework and do my hair. A year passed and finally the day I've been waiting so impatiently for has come. My father had proposed to Bird. I was so happy, but not just because I was going to finally have a mother, but because my father finally found somebody who is smart, caring, and dedicated to their self and his kids. Wedding day came and gone, and Bird moved in with us.

Two years passed and I was enjoying my life with Bird, but then suddenly having a stepmother wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I remember I was in third grade and I had a problem with math. I really didn't see the point of adding and subtracting numbers. So to save me from doing my math homework, I would erase the math homework that I would write in my homework book. This didn't help because Bird would always look at the book and see that I erased my homework. I would get
