She Thought She Was Dead

Growing up in a small town like Fairview consisting off one traffic light, it was important to create my own means of entertainment. My friends and I had been unique in this regard. The normal 12-13 year old girl usually experiments with make up or plays games like truth or dare. That was not the case with my friends. Instead, we spent our free time driving my neighbor Sarah's old beat up riding lawn mower with a rusted wagon attached to the back.

By looking at the wagon, you would not expect it to hold three, sometimes four girls. But, we would squeeze as many people into the wagon as possible. Sometimes we plopped two girls on the mower. One drove while another sat on the back of the seat. We would spend hours driving around on this mower. We would take it all over my neighbor's twelve acres of land. In between the long row of pine trees, always making it a point to duck so we wouldn't get smacked in the face by the branches. We would put along behind the long row of neighbor's houses, waving to the friendly people who would be outside. Sometimes we would pretend we were on a safari ride and point out all the different animals my neighbor's had. We loved to pick up speed (which amounted to about 5 miles per hour) and go through the big dips in the field. We would always rotate drivers so everyone had their chance to be in control and behind the wheel. I'll admit that when I drove I was always a little bit crazier and daring then the other girls.

One tractor ride in particular stands out in my mind and I know my friends will never let me forget. But before I tell you about this adventurous ride might I inform you that to my friends I am the klutz. I always seem to be falling, spilling, or damaging things. This was just one more mishap to add to the long list of things I've done wrong in the past.
