Satirical Animation

To Whom it May Concern,

I have decided to create a satirical animation that aims to show the serious issues of contemporary American capitalist society. In this episode ‘two cars in every garage and three eyes on every fish’, the corruption and greed of big business is criticised, along with the hypocritical nature of media of the gullible nature of American people. I have used various techniques of satire to express this message and to try and encourage viewers to consider their own behaviour and improve it.

In order to show the audience how industry affects our society. I have designed a suburban fictitious town called Springfield for the setting in my satire. It will represent middle class American society. As the title suggests every home has 2 cars every garage, green grass, white picket fences, houses in neat rows and all very similar, kids on skateboards and running around, neighbours are friendly and always willing to help. Clean living ideals of suburbia juxtaposed against pollution. Many people are associated with the nuclear power plant even if they don’t work there, their life is affected by it.

The characters in my satire represent the typical middle class American family but each character are individuals in society. I’ve put in charge of the nuclear power plant, Mr Burns who is a caricature of a typical boss business man. Homer supports Mr Burns because he is afraid of losing job.

Smithers parody’s political spin. He supports Mr Burns in his political campaign. He’s the man behind the man. He is constantly flattering Mr Burns and helping the evolution of the three eyed fish “Blink” by stating the benefits of being able to find more food and dodging predators.

Homer is the main protagonist. He is shown to be a good hearted guy but lacks ambition. His wife Marge is the complete opposite of him, she is level headed and wise and describes him perfectly when saying, “When a man’s biggest dreams include seconds on dessert, occasional snuggling and sleeping in till noon on weekends, no one man can destroy them.” This says that he is not ambitious which could describe most of middle class America.

Bart provides the storyline by catching the three eyed fish. The fish represents the corruption of powerful industries that don’t care about the environment.
