In every work of literature that’s been heard out through the world, throughout history, tells a story about life and sending a message to what life can be for those with emotions and even the ones without emotions. The stories in literature, most of the time, speaks the tale of love and what catastrophe can happen due to the causes of love. The most common love story that's been heard throughout history is the tale of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. "Romeo and Juliet" tells the story of two people falling in love; coming from two kind of world, two different kind of path, and two different kind of families. Even with their background being completely different, the two young love birds fell in love anyway. This type of concept is sometimes known as the "Romeo and Juliet syndrome". In some modern love stories, there is example of the "Romeo and Juliet syndrome" being use to send the message of the stories being told to the readers. One story, known as "The Girl with the Golden Parasol" by Uday Prakash, is like the Indian version of Romeo and Juliet. It tells the story about love and the events are surrounding the love of two.

"The Girl with the Golden Parasol" tells the story about young man named Rahul. Rahul is a university student working on improving his studies to create a better future for himself and to observe the world around him. In the beginning of the story it talks about the obsession of living a life of Bollywood films. It shows the obsession of a certain actress and how they want nothing but the Bollywood life styles but the stories themes changes throughout the events happening to the young man. It shows the Indian version of a young Romeo finding his Juliet and wanting to get closer to his lover. The young Romeo drives himself to get into his Juliet's life but then soon discovers the events that he is now involved caused by the passion of love.

Rahul is a young man, who is the Romeo of the story, attending a university known as "the Cambridge of India". Rahul had begun the university to study the works of organic chemistry as his major. In the beginning of his studies he soon realizes that the studies of organic chemistry didn't really suit him for the future. He quickly decided to change his studies to anthropology and begin to observe the studies of it. Rahul was also a craze fan and very obsess with the famous Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri Dixit has stared in many famous Bollywood movies and some of those movies made a huge impact on people lives. People thought about their life as a Bollywood movie, especially Rahul. Rahul felt his life was like a Bollywood movie; loving an actress and thinking his life can be like a Bollywood movie. Rahul was a lover of Madhuri Dixit but one thing in the story had change his feeling; a girl. His life was just like a Bollywood film as he fell in love with a girl just by looking at her for the first time. Her name was Anjali Joshi.

Anjali Joshi was another student attending the university same as Rahul but with a different mind of studies. Anjali was studying Hindi and is the daughter of a wealthy state level cabinet minister. She is also a Brahmin while Rahul is a non-Brahmin. A Brahmin is a Varna, which is better known as class, of Hindus specialize people such as priests, teachers, and protectors of sacred learning through-out generation. They are also in charge of the rituals that occurs during special time in temple and gives the rite of passage rituals in wedding by giving special prayers. Anjali was part of the Hindi department and has very high connection due to her family background. All of the people she associates with are all Brahmin.

Rahul had begun eyeing and giving interest to Anjali, as he believed he had fallen in love for real. He decided to change his studies again and begin his work in Hindi, hoping to get closer with Anjali. Even though he's in the same studies as Anjali he is now in a different area of life. He realizes that there were not many non-Brahmin in the Hindi department and all of the studies are being taught by Brahmin. Even knowing everyone is Brahmin in the Hindi Department, Rahul had still decided to pursue his crush of Anjali. Even though dealing with the facts his surrounding is the Brahmin Territory, he had begun his romance with Anjali and got with her.

Their romance was alive to them but to others it was known as a mistake in the Brahmin community. Rahul is not a wealthy man. He doesn't come from a family of famous people nor rich people having lots of high connection. Being the daughter of a Brahmin minister, Anjali's life, including her love life, can never be hidden from her family. There are people in the college that are called goondas, which is a Hindi word known as bad guys, that roams around and harasses the students and are connected with higher authorities. With the connection of the higher level in the college, there were mass difficulties for Anjali and Rahul's romance to go on but they were in love like Romeo and Juliet were.

Throughout their romance, it reveals the most current news that occurs in India; corrupt politicians. The corrupt politicians are the one who’s has the connections to the goondas that harasses people for money and only care
