Priest and Pagan

In the story "priest and Pagan" Father Choblet's and Tabonaara's have different

religions. Father Choblet is a Catholic while Tabonaara is a pagan. They both believe

that the soul goes to a better place in the afterlife that is the paradise. In

Catholicism you must repent and perform m the last rites before death while in

paganism is the other way you must perform last rites after the person has died.

Both of them were good intentioned people who even though they were form

different religions they had the good intentions envetnhough they had the wrong

beliefs. They though that it was their responsibility to save the people from going to

hell or anywhere else unless the paradise in the afterlife.

Father Choblet had a strong faith in God which impulses him to do always his will

and serve the lord. As knowing this person in the other island had only little time to

live he felt it was his task to give him the last rites and save him so therefore he would

be happy in the eternal life with God the father.

The faith and the intentions to do always good made Father Choblet to make the

decision of risking his life to try and save somebody who was in terminal conditions

to repent and find forgiveness and have the opportunity to enter to the paradise.

The fact that those islands didn't have many priests was a bad thing due to the fact

that if it would have the enough number of priests there it wouldn't have been

necessary that Father Choblet would have to travel and go to another island and lose

his life on the path.

It is ironic to see how father Choblet died. It is ironic because you see that he is

going to the island because the closest priest was surrounded by bad conditions and

was far more risky to him than it was to Choblet and he travels to go and save

someone else but he ends up dying himself.

The fact that Choblet went into the sea being aware that it was storm season and

agreeing to go just to give the last rites to a man who didn't have much to live is a

demonstration of the faith and love Father Choblet had on God.

The intentions of Choblet of saving that man were the last rites for himself because

he goes and dies while trying to save somebody and in my opinion he reaches heaven

after he dies in the storm. He reaches the paradise because he deserves it and because

he always seeks the good and how to help the needed. He even lived apart form

society to live on an island where they were spreading Christianity and establishing

missions.

By accepting the responsibility of being a priest and give all his life to serve God

and by doing the good for mankind instead of trying to fulfill his own dreams he

leaves out selfishness and chooses to be humble.

For my opinion I think he has all the love, faith, and courage of risking his own

life because he has faith in God.

To perform that kind of deed you need special love, you need a source of love

coming somewhere that is out of you. The love that Father Choblet came from

God and his faith gave him the strength and the intention to do it. He didn't only

wanted to save that person from hell but he also wanted to make people to get closer

to God and to learn how to accept him in their lives.
