Pride and Prejudice

In the story Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, two people deal with each other's strong first impressions. The prior title for the book was going to be called First Impressions, but was later changed to Pride and Prejudice. These two titles fit perfectly well with the story and its plot. The story is about two people who judge each other before getting to know each other first. Pride stands for the man who was so snobby and thought so highly about himself and the prejudice stands for the woman who judged the man and didn't get to really know him.

In the story, one of the main characters is Elizabeth Bennet. She meets a man Mr. Darcy at a ball and immediately sees him as an arrogant and rude man. She is a very intelligent woman and is also very independent. When she meets Mr. Darcy, he refuses to dance with her at the ball and this causes her prejudice towards him to show. She doesn't feel the need to waste her time with someone who is in a higher social class than her and believes he is much too superior than everyone else and especially towards herself. Her prejudice is a main part of the story and causes herself and Mr. Darcy to not get along.

Mr. Darcy, the other main character, is the son of a wealthy, well established family. He is intelligent, yet has a very strong ego. Because he is wealthy and of the higher social class, he tends to come off rude and judges harshly without even realizes it. When he proposes to Elizabeth and she rejects him, he feels humiliated. The rejection changes his snobby ways and humbles him to where he realizes that he has too much pride. He tries and tries to prove to her that he loves her and that he is the one for her. Elizabeth ends up apologizing and realizes how she treated him and that the way she judged him was wrong. They then realize that they are each other's ideal match.
