Michael watched the game from the section at the top of the arena.

He could not see much from his seat.

The players listened to their coach amid the roar of the crowd.

Outside the arena a man sold counterfeit tickets from the internet.

The police saw him from the road and moved toward him.

He was arrested without much effort from the officers.

Michael had almost bought a ticket from the man.

After the game he heard about the arrest of the ticket scalper.

Despite his bad seat he had a good time at the game.

According to the news the man had been arrested many times before that game.

English 1010 is the first of two first-year composition courses at the University of Memphis. English 1010 will introduce students to academic writing, which emphasizes inquiry, critical analysis, argumentation, research, and documentation. In English 1010, students will read, think, and talk about academic writing, then write a variety of texts that range from narration to argument, that will prepare them for the more focused curriculum of argumentation in English 1020. In addition, because grammar and usage are important components of the writing process, students will become familiar with major grammatical functions, be able to recognize how these work (or not) in the texts that they read, and incorporate them effectively into their own writing.
