Macbeth is a Scottish General in the 1600s. He and another general, Banquo have just defeated the Ireland and Norwegian Armies. Three witches appear and tell Macbeth that he will one day become king of Scotland. They also tell Banquo that his children will inherit the throne, but Banquo himself will never become the king. After hearing the news, Macbeth tells his wife. Macbeth's wife tells Macbeth to kill King Duncan so Macbeth can take the throne. Duncan Macbeth, and his wife plan to have diner together that night. When Duncan falls asleep, Macbeth kills him. He and Lady Macbeth blame the chamberlains and get them drunk so they don't remember what happened. In the morning, Macbeth kills them. Macbeth then wants to kill Banquo and his son so he can never inherit the throne. Banquo is killed, but his son escapes. Banquo's ghost comes and visits Macbeth that night. Macbeth is terrified and visit's the witches. Here, they tell him to beware of Macduff- a Scottish nobleman who cannot be harmed by and man born of women. Macbeth then kills Lady Macduff and her children. Macduff then joins Prince Malcolm's (Duncan's son's) army so he can attack the Scottish army and kill Macbeth. Lady Macbeth ends up committing suicide and the Scottish and English armies go to war. Macduff kills Macbeth and no becomes the King of Scotland.

The theme of Macbeth is how far are you willing to go to get what you want? Shakespeare has the main character kill to show the theme. Macbeth wanted to become King of Scotland and would do anything to get it. He killed his best friend just so he could have the throne. After that, he was willing to kill an innocent family so he could keep his position as king.
