Letter to Husband

Dear Steven,

How are you? I hope you are doing well. I have been struggling a lot recently as I have come back from war with severe injuries all throughout my upper body and I feel as I have been mentally scarred as well as physically. I was hit by a bullet in Bosnia which entered underneath my eye, went through my cheek, blew out the hinge of my jaw, went down my neck, nicked my artery, bounced off my scapula which shattered, into my shoulder which also shattered, broke 2 ribs at the back, went through the back of my lung and my heart, then scraped my stomach, punctured my intestine then stopped by my kidney.

Ever since I have been hit by that bullet I have become a different man. My relationship with Laura has not been the same since as I came back as I’ve been too secretive with my feelings and I haven’t been letting her into my emotions. Also due to my paranoia I developed from being at war and now it has come home with me. Things that didn’t get to me before really upset me now and its having a negative turn on my relationship with Laura.

Right now I am really concerned about my condition as it isn’t getting better and if anything it is getting worse especially with my paranoia. For example something as simple as a baby crying will set me off as it reminds me of the screams of people at war or hearing a balloon pop will also cause the same effect as it reminds me of a bomb or grenade. Both of these situations aren’t really convenient as we have a young child and I’m very likely to be in both of these situations and many more. I am concerned that my condition may further deteriorate as the years pass.

My partner Laura treats me for with a lot of respect and I also respect her for how she has to deal with my problems. She is careful with me as she knows that I am fragile both mentally and physically and she is learning to understand me and my problems
