The purpose of the negotiation:

As a intern in Freedommen Art Apartment(FAA), I was a leader in the group, and assigned to communicate and connect with the foreign artists. Approximately three weeks ago, an American artist join our program that he would have artist-in-residence in Taichung

for six months to nine months depend on his working progress. Therefore, I had to email him in advance to make sure his working place, place to residence and everything he needs was settle. I had a chance to negotiate with different company and people like the hotel,gallery and even negotiate with artist himself and my superior. Next, I would mention how I apply some skills to deal with the several situations in this period.

Preparation:

At the very first place, I connected with the artist Ryan to make sure what he need during his trip and schedule the arrival time by emails. Also, I wrote down some item that he would like to buy in Taiwan. Since he told me that he was excited to travel Taiwan during his spare time, so I mention some spots like National Taichung Theater that he may like to travel. Knowing his interests and scheduling his trip in advance makes me feel more confident and satisfied.

The negotiation techniques

Postional bargaining

Before Ryan arrived in Taiwan, I asked my superior if I could book the tickets from National Taichung Theater for artist. Originally, my boss Andy reject my proposal, he thought that it was wasting company’s money. I told him how Ryan wants to go to the National Taichung Theater. And in return, it might inspire Ryan makes him be more efficient in his working progress. Also, I explained that I know he need to control the budget and I totally respect his decision. Finally, we reach the compromise that my boss Andy would personally buy the ticket for Ryan and I, and I have to write 1000 words report after we finish watching the show. I was very satisfied the result because I never expect that I also got the ticket for the show!
