Joe Nicely

In this reflective essay I am going to discuss a situation that I had to work through and have made me stronger. I believe this situation taught me a lot about life and how to live it. Joe Nicely was murdered by a drunk driver. He was my sister's boyfriend and my big brother. I am going to explain: his life before the accident, the accident itself, and our lives after the accident. It is a emotional story, but people need to hear about it. I can only hope it will prevent it from happening to some one else.

Joe Nicely had a great future in his sights. He was asked to attend the University of Tennessee and play football as a defensive end. He bought himself a sixty-nine mustang with all his savings. However, all of this is nothing compared to the future he had planned with my sister. He loved her with everything he had and planned on marriage. Life was finally looking up for a young man with a very rough childhood.

One night Joe Nicely got into his Mustang, and began to drive the 6 hours to my sister's college to see her. He proceeded through a red light and was T-boned by a drunk driver who ran a red light in his Suburban. Joe's car was smashed to pieces as well as Joe's chest. He was pronounced dead, but paramedics were able to revive him. A kid that was on his way to see the love of his life was now fighting for it in a hospital bed. He died nine times on the table; he was in and out of coma three times. His chances of getting out of the last one were very slim, but he woke up on my sister's birthday. He told her Happy Birthday and he loved her. The excitement in my family's eyes that night was extraordinary. Things were looking up and the doctors were sure he was ok. Two days later Joe died in his sleep.

My sister and my parents always wanted to talk about it. I didn't see how going over what happened would mean anything. My mom and my sister cried
