Issues Hide Behind the Stories

        All the authors or poets have their main ideas when they are writing. Some authors directly show their motivations in the article to tell readers their thoughts, but some author choose to hide the theme behind the story and make readers to discover by themselves. The articles not only can reveal the writers' emotions or their personal live experiences but also can reflect the writers' opinions of political ideas in the contemporary society. The author W.H Auden, Chinua Achebe, Salman Rushdie all covey their conceptions of society through their articles.

        In the poem Musee des Beaux Arts written by W.H Auden, the writer reflects the social phenomenon through his words. The poem reveals people's indifferent attitude toward everything in the society. He not only takes the painting The Fall of Icarus but also takes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as his examples to describe people's attitude. W.H Auden criticizes that people in that time do not care about others' sufferings. While individuals suffer, the daily routines of life goes on as usual. The writer says "The ploughman may have heard the splash, the forsaken cry, but for him it was not an important failure."(p. 2823) Through the text, the writer points out the realistic image of the contemporary world and conveys his critics of the phenomenon.

        Through the story Civil Peace, Chinua Achebe reflects people's struggle for survival in the miserable society. After the Biafran War, people lives in chaos and tragic life. They lose their poverty, family, and their hometown. Everyone feels depressed and frustrated about their life. However, Achebe creates a character to encourage people to cheer up for their life. The main character is a person who is survived from the war with his family. During the time, Jonathan encounters many obstacles. For example, his son is died of the war and his money is rubbed by the bandits. However, Jonathan do not defeated by the obstacles. He always has optimistic attitude to face everything and mentions that "Nothing puzzles God"     (p. 2866) From text, readers can find that Alice Munro creates Jonathan as a model for people who are living in depression to move forward and devoted on rebuilding their new live.
