America, the land of the free, is the main attraction to those with the aspiration of obtaining the same benefit that Americans possess. Those who wish to move to this country are known as immigrants who in which cross the international political border by land, water, or air. In today’s society, the number of immigrants has increased severely causing several circumstances to be viewed upon. Immigration has legal and illegal effects, impacts on American economy and culture, benefits and drawbacks, and contributions to the society as a whole.

Legal and illegal immigration come hand-in-hand with effects on the United States. Politics consider immigration as a larger set of social issues. There are several time constraints with disputed consequences with disputed consequences in areas such as economy, social welfare, education, health care, slavery, prostitution, crime, legal protection, voting rights, public services, and human rights. Immigration has a very large effect on the low-skilled labor market. Immigrants comprise between one-fourth and one-third of workers in cleaning, construction and food service occupations. Roughly half of these immigrant workers are estimated to be illegal immigrants.

Immigrants have a huge impact on the economy and the culture. They often bring their sense of style into the American life with their various different types of cuisines, clothing, etc. With this comes a job in restaurant kitchens, garment factories, tomato fields, etc. As a way of means they also pursue careers in parking garages and taxicabs, or pushing brooms and performing a host of other menial tasks whose common features are long hours and low pay. While working these jobs there are little or no taxes paid. Obviously, legal immigration has profoundly influenced U.S. society. Numerous studies show that migrants enhance productivity in a number of ways. They accept temporary or marginal jobs, work hard, and pay more in taxes. They also take in services and establish vibrant small-business sectors.

Immigration has its benefits and drawbacks. US immigration policies are interesting in that they are really designed to bring in immigrants with a certain level and type of education to help enhance the nation economically. This idea appears reasonable; however, there are a few consequences.
