He is important to Michele later in the story because he thinks to himself be brave like tiger jack when he sneaks out to see Filippo and "what would tiger jack do in my place?" when he is trying to sneak around Melichetti's pigs without them smelling him.

10. Micheles first encounter with the dead boy was one of anticipation and fear because he wasn't sure if the boy was alive.

11. Micheles mother was a very quiet woman was very happy when her husband returned home from work but became almost mute when he was not home.

12. The first clue he encounters is his mother's shallow saucepan located in the shed of the abandoned house smelling like tomato sauce in which his mother makes.

13. The second clue he encounters is when he looked out the window of his own home in the middle of the night and saw his father on top of the hill where the abandoned house was located to give filippo the left over meat Maria didn't eat at dinner.

15. Felice natale was skulls older brother he was 20 years old and whenever he was in acqua traverse life was hell for the kids. He would hit and steal things from the children, he was friendless and womanless, he was like a tiger in a cage, he is involved in the kidnapping as he goes forwards and backwards to the abandoned house to check that the boy is still alive and in the hole and he feeds him and gives him water.

16. The little wash bears are bears that come in the window if you leave it open in the middle of the night and eat cookies and cakes you left from during the day and eat your rubbish if you don't put the lid on properly, they also bite people for they are scared of humans. The lord of the worms is felice who shouts orders down the hole to filippo and if he doesn't do what he's told felice will squash him like a worm.

17. Sergio Materia was 67 years old and came from Rome, he stayed in micheles home, was friends with his father, was involved in filippos kidnapping and was a robber who went to jail and was released on good conduct. He was thin with a baldhead above his ears. His family include two children one alive (Giuliano) who lives in India and one is deceased (Francesco) who died 5 years ago,

18. Michele discovers that filippo has been kidnapped and is reported missing, he belongs to a wealthy family, the family appealed for him to be returned to them safely.

19. This realisation affected Michele by thinking his father took children during the night and sold them to the gypsies, he also realised his father wasn't as good as he had always imagined,

20. Michele is scared to sleep in the same room as Sergio because he knew he took filippo and knew if he fell asleep he would take him too, put him in a sack and cut off his ears.

21. Filippo though him and his family were all dead and were all stuck in individual holes.

22. Filippo was 9 years old, has fine matted blonde hair, clotted blood sealed his eyes shut, His lips were black and cut, his nostrils were full of soot and scabs and his teeth were black.

23. The monsters are the wicked witches, the four legged werewolf, the bogeyman, Lazarus, the ogre, the gypsies the man with the circle, the fisherman and the octopus boy. A nine year old boy has a vivid imagination and it doesn't surprise me he is afraid of such twisted objects/nightmares.

Michele found in Sergio's suitcase clothes, a bottle of perfume, a flask of stock 84, a carton of cigarettes, a folder with a little packet of photos inside newspaper clippings also located in the folder a lined exercise book which belonged to filippo and at the bottom was a pistol wrapped in towel.

25. The scardaccione was the richest family in acqua traverse; they had many people working for them especially in the harvest season.
