So he takes the advice of a TV commercial and brings the family to see media psychotherapist Dr. Marvin Monroe, who winds up wiring the family to devices that allow them to shock each other, only to see them zap each other at will--hilariously so--and take down the entire Springfield power grid. True Simpsons fans will notice that Homer acts quite out of character in this episode. The exigency of this show was comedy with lots of laughter and the setting in Springfield, USA. The protagonist was clearly Homer who was also embarrassed of his families behavior at the outing.

Homer is the unhealthy beer loving father who spends a lot of time at Moe's Tavern, Marge is the hardworking homemaker wife, Bart is the ten year old underachiever (and proud of it), Lisa is the unappreciated eight year old genius, and Maggie is the cute, pacifier loving silent infant. The Simpsons are very politically incorrect family. Homer works with pride in a nuclear power plant run with more regard to profit than safety. His wife is Marge, a kind of supermom. They have three kids Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

The Simpsons was the first primetime animated show that was treated like a sitcom since "The Flintstones." The great thing about the series is that it caters to all audiences. True there are usually situations that may not be suitable for all viewers, but then again that is true with everything on television with popular culture. "The Simpsons" work because of great comedy of course, but also great lessons that can be taken from most of the episodes such as this one. The people within the program may be animated, but they are just as complicated and vulnerable as the people watching them.
