Nowadays, haze happens annually in our country. Haze is caused by dust and smoke particles that accumulate in relatively dry air. Haze is very dangerous because it affects the health of humans. When humans breath in a lot of haze that contains a lot of dust and smoke particles, they may suffer from diseases such as respiratory problems, lung infections and asthma attack. Besides that, haze will also block the sight of driver and will cause accidents to happen easily. Thus, haze will affect our daily life. Example, students cannot go to school, people cannot work, cannot go for exercise and so on. What is the causes of haze in our country?

First of all, lingering smoke from forest fires on the Indonesian island of Sumatara are identified as the primary cause. Farmers regularly burn scrub and forest to clear land during the dry season for agricultural purposes. Malaysia was worst hit in 1997. Farmers practice shifting agriculture, a traditional farming method that involves clearing of forested land for cultivation using the slash and burn method. As a result, the smoke that produced after burning will blew by the wind and flew to Malaysia. Hence, this has caused haze to happen in our country.

Another cause of haze in Malaysia has been identified to be smoke or industrial waste from factories emitted through the chimneys. Malaysia is a developed country. Many industries are built to contribute to our country’s economy. Unfortunately, the smoke or industrial waste that passes out from the factory at the same time. Most of the industries are not willing to spend a lot of money to get the smoke filtering device. So, the smoke that is not filtered will contain sulphur dioxide and nitrogen which can cause the air to become hazy. To prevent this situation from happening, I hope that the government can set a rule that every industry must install a chimney to prevent the poisonous gases from being emitted from the factory again.

In addition, smoke from vehicles is also a factor that causes haze to happen. In this 21st century, most of the residents in Malaysia have their own vehicles. Thus, there are almost more than 10 tonnes of poisonous gases emitted from the vehicles
