Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

When most people consider wizardry, and witchcraft, they do not picture an entire school devoted to teaching these interesting and mysterious skills. In both the film, and novel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by: J.K. Rowling, this is just the case. Although both the film and novel have this similarity, they are also very different. The differences between the novel and the film include, literary devices, characterization, and plot.

The first difference between the film and the novel is, the use of literary devices. A great example of this is during the course of the novel Ginny Weasley foreshadows, giving hints that she was the one who had unlocked the chamber of secrets. She does this by acting very strangely every time that the chamber of secrets is mentioned. Or, whenever someone has been found petrified, she comes into the Great Hall looking white as a ghost and not saying a word. In contrast, in the film, there are virtually no hints of Ginny acting strangely. This is the smallest difference between the novel and the film.

Also, there are differences in characterization between the film and the novel. This is shown best in Hermione. In the novel, she is not upset at all after Draco Malfoy, Harry's arch nemesis, called her a "mudblood", meaning that you were born a wizard from a muggle family, which is a great insult in the wizarding world. She was not upset by this, as she did not know what the term meant, instead Harry and Ronald got upset and had to stick up for her to Malfoy and his friends. On the contrary, in the film, she knows exactly what it meant by this term and is deeply offended by this. Therefore, this is a significant difference between the film, and the novel.

Finally, there are great differences in plot between the film and the novel. This is evident when in the novel, a scuffle occurs between Lucius Malfoy and Arthur Weasley, but this is left out of the film. Another
