Guns Need to be Controlled

It was a typical day in Las Angeles when two suspects attempted to rob a Bank of America in North Hollywood. Loaded with assault rifles and armor piercing bullets, the suspects started shooting at everything that moved. Dave Butler a former LAPD officer said “the police officers who arrived on scene first were at a huge disadvantage” because they only had their standard-issue 9 millimeter Baretta’s and 15 bullets each. So the police could not penetrate the armor of the suspects. Out-gunned, police responded to a combat zone. Bullets were flying everywhere, cutting through cars, buildings and even bystanders. Since the police had no weapons that could stop these two men they had to go to a local gun shop and they came out with more powerful weapons. With more than 200 police on hand they finally took down the suspects, which lasted more than an hour. One suspect was shot in the head and died on the scene and the other suspect died later on from multiple gun shot wounds. During all this 15 people were injured, including 10 policemen. Shootouts like this should never happen because no one in this country should be able to get guns like these two suspects had, so I think guns need to be controlled

better.

The National Rifle Association(NRA) was founded on November 17, 1871, by Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate. The main goal of this association was to promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis. The NRA has been promoting the use to guns throughout history and has had many supporters. In 1872 the first site was created in Long Island and was called Creedmoor, where the first annual matches were held. Political opposition to the promotion of marksmanship in New York made the NRA find a new home for its range. In 1892, NRA moved to Sea Girt, New Jersey. The NRA had a interest in making shooting a sport among America’s youth. This began in 1903 by Secretary Albert S. Jones. He wanted this to be established in all Major colleges, universities and military academies and by 1906 the NRA’s youth program was in full swing. They had more than 200 boys competing in matches as Sea Girt. Today there are more than one million youth participating in NRA shooting sports events and affiliated programs such as boy scouts of America, the American Legion, and U.S. Jaycees. Since the NRA has grown so much they had to move to a different and bigger location. Gen. Ammon B. Crichfield created a site 45 miles east of Toledo, Ohio, called Camp Perry. Camp Perry is where the NRA has its national matches, which include pistol, small-bore and high-power events. The NRA stands for the Second Amendment which is the right for Americans to bear arms. With a lot of attacks on the Second Amendment rights, the NRA created the Legislative Affairs Division in 1934. Knowing that they needed political defense of the Second Amendment they formed the Institute for Legislative Action also known as ILA in 1975. The NRA backed legislation into law that will protect the existing rights of law-abiding gun owners. House Bill 503 preserves the self-defense rights of law-abiding men and women as they travel in their cars to and from their daily activities.

Today getting a firearm is not a hard task. There are many different laws throughout the U.S. Some are stricter than others but bottom line no matter what laws there are they can never be taken seriously because not every state has the same law. In the U.S. it is easy to get automatic and high-powered guns. This needs to stop because if you look back at a lot of terrible incidents this Nation has witnessed, the suspects used automatic and high-powered guns. Such as the L.A. bank robbery the suspects used AK-47 assault rifles and other small arms.

Since 1934, it has been unlawful to have machine guns without special permission from the U.S. Treasury Department.
