Friendships Between Genders

Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray each other. Some people prefer to make friends who are similar to them and some think that the friends who they like are different from them. There are many reasons that cause those people want to choose persons who they want to be friend. Judith Viorst, author of “Friends, Good Friends вЂ" and Such Good Friends,” divided each type of friendships to eight variations of relationships. Out of all, crossroads friends and historical friends are the most common for both males and females.

A crossroad friend is one who was involved in a very important time in a person’s live. These friends are very strongly linked. The person that graduated high school at the same time as I did will forever hold a close place in my heart. Although he has moved to Philippines, we still keep in touch from time to time. Our friendship is undoubtedly still very strong even though we only speak to each other a few times per week. This type of friendship is most common for both genders because during college, it is more likely that students “room[ing] in college together” (346) would be the same sex. For many women it is another woman who went through pregnancy together. For men, maybe their wives were having babies at the same time. The husbands are going through the same anxiety as well as the wives who are giving birth for their first time are sharing this significant event of their life which make them crossroads friends and make this relationship most common for both males and females because they are going through the same emotion.
