Banning Guns

Being able to own a firearm could be a benefit but also a horrible tragedy. Firearms should be banned from civilians because they are a danger to the public, they are not well regulated, and the second amendment of the right to bear arms is outdated. Firearms are not known to do any good but to cause harm and death. The main idea of a firearm is used is to shoot someone and possibly kill them. No one gets any good deeds from a firearm and they are extremely dangerous. In addition, firearms are not well regulated, basically anyone can own one and there is no stable nor strict regulations on them. There's a whole country that does not allow anyone to own a firearm and that’s Canada. People are allowed to own guns under the second amendment but the second amendment also states how firearms were used against militias.

Guns have always been a danger to the public, because they are used for one thing only and that’s to kill. Back in december there was a terrorist attack in San bernardino, where a married couple attended a holiday party and began to shoot their co-workers. They were of course armed, but if civilians were not allowed to own a firearm to begin with, this tragedy would of been harder to go through with. The article, Just Facts stated “ As of 2009, The United States has a population of 307 million people. Based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010. Of these, about 100 million are handguns”(Pg. 3). The fact that our population was 307 million and only 7 million of us don't own a firearm is frighten, Many people claim they own a gun for protection but yet we always hear about shootings now, whether it’s in schools, neighborhoods, or local surroundings. Many cases that involved a firearm could of been prevented if the states or government would have not allowed civilians to own a firearm, there are many other options to feel secure of one’s safety.

Firearms are not well regulated, but different states have different laws when it comes to firearms. For example, on an informative webpage named, What do you need to purchase a handgun in California, it states that someone would need a California ID, proof of residence, and proof that they are 21 years or older, and take some type of course. Their is no major restrictions such as, they need to wait about three weeks to receive the firearm and a brief background check . The fact that their has been many cases where people get a hold of a gun and use it for the wrong reasons is awful. The government should of never allowed for civilians to own firearms or they should've at least put stable regulations to people who can own them and how or where to be used. The article, Just Facts claims “Based on survey data from the U.S Department of Justice roughly 5,340,000 violent crimes were committed in the United States during 2008. These include simple/aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, rapes, and murders. Of these, about 436,000 or 8% were committed by offenders visibly armed with a gun”( Pg.4) . If firearms were to be banned from civilians from the start, crimes such as those would not occur. Despite the fact that people want to protect themselves, criminals would not own firearms if they were banned from all civilians in the beginning.

The second amendment of the bill of rights, is that we have the right to bear arms when it comes to a militia.
