Crash

Extreme prejudice and ethnocentrism can be found throughout the whole movie of Crash. From beginning to end you can see and hear racial slurs and stereotypes that are many times quite blunt. The different stereotypes that society has created for different racial backgrounds affected their judgment, beliefs, and actions. The point that the film was trying to make is that people have grown cold to affection and respect, instead immediately using hatred and paranoia as a way of communicating with their fellow man, almost always with disastrous consequences. Only to find out that they know nothing; that they are no different from one another.

"It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something"(Graham). Just in the first line of the movie, you can get a sense of what the movie is trying to portray to the audience. There are many different cultures and cultural backgrounds in L.A., however, it's the rules of society that drive people apart from each other. People don't know how to react to each other and often times the only means of communication is to be egocentric of themselves. The film is based around people that are somehow connected to one another through a superficial coincidence. With each new character entering the plot, the point of being so alone in a claustrophobic racial world is evident. I like how the film got this point across without being too obvious. It seems as though people want the comfort of knowing someone is there for them, however, people are scared of one another because of their differences. One of the many apprehensive parts of this story is that nearly every character was so wrong about something essential in their lives and
