Brave New World

In Aldous Huxley's, Brace New World, he creates a society that goes completely against our own. It is a place where everything is controlled, monitored, and artificial. In a sense, it was created in a test tube. The society in Brave New World is "factory-made". The people are born in test tubes, human nature is conditioned so that an individual cannot recognize or access it, and every tiny aspect of a person's life is predetermined. The people's lives revolve around, "Community, Identity, and Stability" which basically sums up what the people are living for: the society as a whole. Even though the society in Brave New World was created to be successful, it has failed to give its people individuality. The individuals in this society sacrificed their identity to ensure the people as a whole were to survive, thrive, and live a life of bliss.

Society in Brave New World works around a particular motto: "Community, Identity, and Stability". This basically means that the community is the company, identity are the workers, and stability is the product. The community is what houses the identity. The identity is what the people relate with; their occupation and caste status is their identification, in all manners including what they wear, how they act, their job, what others think of them, and even how they look. Stability is what community and stability is working for. Stability in society comes from the individuals doing their assigned job, wearing their assigned clothes, and working together so that everyone in society is satisfied. The people are created according to their predestined caste. Depending on what their caste status is, they are conditioned to like and dislike certain things, to think a certain way, and wear a specific color to identify their caste. However, they are also conditioned to carry the same mentalities on ideas like morality, virtues, religion, relationships, love, family, and other aspects that could potentially lead to conflict. The idea of monogamy and wanting to raise a family are looked down upon. Religion, morality, and virtues in the forms of literature and music are banned because these could cause conflict and raise the people to question their authority. Not only are these aspects banned, but the people are also conditioned so that if they happen to come across these ideas, they are to disapprove of it, and not believe. Society in this story takes away the human nature of the individuals in order to ensure that there be peace and quiet in the world.

Although it appears that those that created this society were being biased and would rather avoid conflict than confront it, the original intent for society to be this way was so that there remain peace and that the people are happy. They wanted a stable community, and in order to achieve that, they were willing to sacrifice the sense of individuality amongst the people. Those that created this society were sincere in wanting to make the people in society happy. The only issue that arose was what were they willing to sacrifice to guarantee longevity of happiness in society? They came up with a system of control. They controlled the people's lives, way of thinking, and be rid of anything that might alter what they were conditioned to do. Even then, if they were to encounter such alterations, they were conditioned to dislike it, to turn away. They became ignorant to what things like death, love, family, faith, and loyalty really are. Society lived in a false life of bliss, thinking that everything will be okay, and even if things weren't, they popped a little pill to make
