A Surfing Experience

Learning how to surf can be an exciting and memorable experience. When I was two, my dad taught me, and I've been doing it ever since. Every year, thousands of tourists are drawn to the ocean and surfing lifestyle of our Hawaiian islands. They see the happiness surfing brings upon people, and only want to experience that joy for themselves. Surfing is relatively easy to learn, provided you have the right equipment and a patient instructor. The first thing they will tell you, is to lay face down on your surfboard, so your arms dangle over the edge of the board into the water. Your arms will be your paddles, they are used to move you in order to catch a wave. Move them in a windmill type of motion to take you out towards the horizon. When you have positioned yourself where the wave will break, sit up, and face the tip, or nose of your board towards the beach. When you see a wave approaching, start paddling, fast. Once you feel you have caught the wave, use your arms and upper body strength to stand up. Your feet should be placed towards opposite ends of the board. Not at complete opposite ends, just towards the ends, so your legs are a little more than shoulder width apart. In other words, just make sure you aren't doing the splits. Bend your knees to give you better balance. And there you go, you are now officially a surfer! I hope your experiences with surfing are as memorable as mine have been. Happy surfing!
