Hello class

As you may know, I am currently on vacation in South Africa, enjoying the warm weather. So far, it is nice, it is actually better than I expected. Some of you might not know, but I was not looking forward to this trip at all.¬¬ I thought it was going to be an old-fashioned country, without functional electricity. I was wrong; of all the African countries, South Africa is the most modern. On top of that, the hotel we are staying at is lovely and have nice internet, with a very warm pool too. South Africa is amazing, the first couple of days we have been trying to settle in. now I feel like I got myself synched in. So here is my first week in south africa.

We live in Cape Town and it is fantastic, one of the first activities we did was, to go to Table Mountain with a cable car. Table Mountain is easily the city's most recognizable landmark, Table Mountain towers over Cape Town just south of the city center. Having earned its name from its unique, flat-topped shape, the mountain is the most popular attraction found within Table Mountain National Park.

The day after that, we went to Robben island museum. During the apartheid years, Robben Island became internationally, known for its institutional brutality. The duty of those who ran Robben Island and the Robben Island prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale. Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison on Robben Island for their beliefs. Apartheid was a political and social system in South Africa while it was under white minority rule. In the early 90s, after a long struggle for democratic and equal rights, and under immense pressure from the United States and Great Britain, the apartheid system ended under the presidency of F.W. de Klerk. The tour guide told us a lot about Nelson Mandela too, everything from how he got his name to the annual celebration day, july 18th: his birthday.
