The Value of a College Education

Introduction

The value of Dianna's education is best explained by the experiences she has had in her own life. She knows that if she had not completed her GED and continued on to a form of higher education that she would not be where she is today. She graduated with high honors from Coastal Bend College in May of 2004 with two Associate Degrees in General Office Management and Office Automation Technology. She interned with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, also known as NIDA for four months in the spring of 2004. She obtained a position with Halliburton Energy Services, one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the oil and gas industries. She continues her education at the University of Phoenix through their spectacular online program.

After Completion of the GED

Dianna dropped out of school at the age of 16; she obtained her GED at the age of 17 in December of 1995. Dianna immediately stepped into the workforce expecting to find good quality work. Her search was relentless and frustrating. She could only obtain jobs that were clerical in nature, such as cashier positions. Three years had past since she received her GED diploma and things did not look too bright. Her sister had suggested going back to school. After only a few days of reflection on the matter, she decided to take a chance and return to school.

Starting College

Dianna initially enrolled at Del Mar College. She chose the major of Radiology Technology. She thought that making more money was more important than what she truly wanted to do. At the time Dianna did not know what she wanted to do as a career anyway. She held a minimal grade point average, and only spent a semester at Del Mar. She then moved on to Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dianna did not do too well at Texas
