Abstract

Good Sport is a manufacture company that produces fitness equipment. The company has been in business for about 15 years, which is lead by James Poole who is the founder and chairperson. With the different, power structures, leadership styles and cultures the company has built on, they can evaluate what best fits into their organization. There are many difference power levels such as legitimate and reward powers that can best describe their organization. There is different type of organizational structure that is defining such as centralization, to participative leadership style. What particular type of conflict management structure that is currently being use at Good Sport and what proposal can be implicated.

Good Sports, based in Coral Springs, Florida, is a manufacture fitness equipment that was founded by Jason Poole an ex-basketball star. The company manufactures equipment such as, treadmills, bikes, steppers, and rowers. In the past 15 years Jason Poole is the current Chairman of the Board, with the help of Marvin Wallace, the Chief Executive Office (CEO). Marvin has been improving and leading the companies' performance of sales, production and the research and development department in the past four years. The type of organizational structure that is used is centralization, the use formal decision making authority making is based on small groups of people, at the top of the organization hierarchy level. (McShane-Von Glinow, 2004, Chapter 15, pg451) The type of culture that exist for Good Sport is an adaptive culture, which means that employees focus the need in change for their customers and stakeholders, and support initiative to keep up with new changes. They are related that with a small company they can make decision as a team with the knowledge that new changes can help the organization grow and be able to compete with their competitors. (McShane-Von Glinow, 2004, Chapter 16, pg483)

Legitimate power has the ability to influence others based on their position. At Good Sport, each senior level person with this type of power can function in the direction of any subordinates accepting and convincing others to make the right decision. As a result of determining how to structure a strategy, employees can best work together to increase company's efficiency, and with effectiveness. By developing an organizational structure it can help other employees focus what are their key roles in business. Organization can be successfully if their culture is managed effectively and in the process of certain effort to develop strategies for mangers to handle culture as a competitive advantage.

Providing feedback might receive a potential reward such as recognition for doing a good job, or using additional resources to complete a job. Reward power can also be best describe for Good Sport, where is the ability to control or distribute the value of rewards by others and to remove negative feedback. It is common that the use of reward power seems to be very effective, particularly in the longer term. Reward power is seldom combined with coercive power, although the two different forms of power can be misunderstanding. It is very important to recognize coercive power before comparing it with and measuring it against reward power. The use of formal authority gives them power over the distribution of organizational reward.
