Course Overview:

This course focuses on business activities across national boundaries. It included external factors such as country institutional differences, foreign direct investment, global business strategy and multinational enterprises. The aim is to provide a panorama of the most important activities in international business and to offer a framework of working from a managerial perspective.

Course Objective:

1. To make students understand the importance of international business and the impact of external environment.
2. To expose students to the various methods of analysing and entering a foreign market.
3. To develop an understanding in students on managing international business operations.

Anticipated Learning Outcome:

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Explain the basic forms, concepts, theories of international business activities and the impact of external factors of international business environment that affect an organisation’s management and operations.
2. Analyse foreign market and choose an appropriate mode of entry.
3. Assess key issues of international business operations.

ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS

COURSEWORK 1 – Group Written Report (60 %)

Guidelines for group formation

1. Students are to organise among themselves into groups of 4-5 students each (please note that project submitted by group less than 4 or more than 5 students will NOT be accepted unless get an approval from tutor).  All groups should be formed and names of group members should be submitted to tutor by Week 3.  Students who are not members of any group shall be assigned to a group by the tutors.
2. Changing of group member is NOT allowed after the submission of group member’s name.
3. The group project marks are FINAL once it has been signed off by the lecturer.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Students are required to work in a group of 4-5.
2. Assignment must be typed written in Times New Roman font, sized 12, with 1.5 spacing.
3. Word count (excluding the reference and appendices) should not be more than 3000 words and should not be less than 2500 words, not including Appendices.
4. Please indicate on the cover page the title, tutorial group, group member’s name, index no, subject code & title and the deadline for the assignment.
5.  Every page must be numbered/or alpha numeric.  Page numbering to be placed on the bottom centre of the page.
6. Mode of Referencing: Harvard referencing system.
7. Plagiarism involves copying materials from other sources without acknowledging the original author. The College treats plagiarism as a serious offense. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against students, including failure of coursework.
8. Before submission, students are required to upload the soft copy of the written report to SafeAssign in CEL to check for plagiarism and attached together the plagiarism report together with your written assignment.  Written assignment without the SafeAssign report will NOT be accepted.  Plagiarism threshold is 15%.  Students are also required to submit the attachment form for plagiarism and submit together with the written assignment.
9. Date of submission: Week 9 (during tutorial session)
10. The coursework marks and feedback will be released in Week 14.

Penalty for Late Submission

All late submission will be imposed a penalty of 10% of the total written assignment marks on daily basis.

WARNING!

Students who are caught for plagiarism will have to re-do the entire assignment within a week.  A maximum of 50 marks will be awarded for second report submission.
