General Motors - GM

General Motors, the biggest car companies in the world, started ninety-four years ago. United Motors Corporation was the first company name of General Motors before they changed it on 1918 (GM 1910s 3). General Motors Company was founded by Billy Durant on September 16, 1908 (GM History 1900s 2). Olds Motor Vehicle Company, Incorporation founded by Ransom E. Olds, the oldest unit of General Motors. It was built with only $50,000 capital and they had 5,000 shares of stocks at $10 each (GM 1900s 1). In 2001, General Motors has revenue of $177,260 billion (Hoover GM). They built their first industrial unit in Detroit on Jefferson Avenue East and became their main headquarters. Oldsmobile made their first American car in 1901 (GM 1900s 1) and the second unit of the General Motors. It was built on November 12, 1908 (GM 1900s 2). Oakland Motor Car Corporation became completely controlled by General Motors in 1902 when the Oakland Motor founder Edward Murphy died. General Motors bought the Ford Motor Company in 1909 for about $9.5 million. They made a Cadillac on July 29, 1909 and invited Henry and his son Wilfred Leland to keep operating Cadillac (GM 1900s 3). In July 22, 1911, General Motors Truck Company, known as GMC was founded. The Chevrolet Motor Company of Michigan was founded by Louise Chevrolet, William Little, Edwin Cambell, and William Durant's son-in-law on November, 1911 in Detroit (GM 1910s 1). Chevrolet Motor Company was operated by General Motors on May, 1918 after they bought it (GM 1910s 3). Ethyl gasoline was made in General Motors Research Laboratory in 1923 (GM 1920s 1). In 1990, General Motors and Toyota made an agreement of working together to increase and explore different vehicles (GM 1990s 8).

People have a big interest in the companies with good benefits. General Motors gives healthcare, insurance, savings and investment, retirement program, work life program, product discount, holidays and vacations, tuition assistance programs, and on-site class work for their employees as a part of their benefits and education.
