Gene One is a Biotechnology company with an impressive assets of 400 million dollars under the Leadership of Don Ruiz.CEO. The Company has plans to reach a different level by going Public. The senior leadership team has some internal conflicts and concerns with the thoughts of launching an IPO. Gene One is missing the strategic planning and evaluation because of lack of communication and organizational skills. In this assessment we will try to analyze the situation in order to resolve the issue and help the Vision of The CEO become a reality.

Situation Analysis

Issue and Opportunity Identification

Gene One is at a crucial junction of achieving a different level of success by going public. A launch of an IPO has been a dream Vision for the CEO and has created some internal conflicts in the senior Team. CEO has been unable to convey his Vision because of lack of good communication and organizational skills. "Effective Communication is when senders thoughts are transmitted and understood by the intended receiver".(McShane & Von Glinow,2004).

Kurt Lewin states a three step model for a change "Unfreezing, Changing and Refreezing" (Kinicki & Kreitner,2004). In this the stage of Unfreezing is the stage of mental preparation and motivation for a change. This unfreezing stage has raised an Issue of resentment and conflict among the team members. Senior team is also concerned about the evaluation needed for the current situation to be able to accept and adapt to the change envisioned by the CEO. Change involves the benchmarking to evaluate the present scenario of Gene One and predicting the outcomes of the anticipated changes in the company. Gene One is at present in the Unfreezing stage according to the three step model depicted by Kurt Lewin. Stage One of this model can be compared to preparations on a war ground before the war. In this stage you have to get ready with your evaluations and benchmarking to win in the warfront.

Gene One has to gain the confidence of the senior team and create a positive environment to have a motivational spirit in the employees and team members of the team to proceed with the dream of going Public in a short span of time. The Team and the employees are bound to show some resistance to change. To gain the confidence and develop the adaptive attitude of the workforce to welcome the change needed will be the ideal solution to the situation.

Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas

Gene One has Stockholders which have the responsibility to look for the Financial Stability of the company and assess the dividend returns for the Investors. The board has to be confident with the capability of the Founding senior team to give the approval for implementing a big change of going public. " Change begets conflict and Conflict begets change"(Kinicki & Kreitner,2004). This approval of Stockholders to launch an IPO has created a conflict in the Senior Team .

CEO and Senior Team have the responsibility of implementing the change with appropriate benchmarking and evaluations . The senior team is accountable and answerable to the board and the employees for the change to be beneficial to the company. The CEO has to have good organizational and communication skills to motivate and have the vision to achieve the end state goal.

Workforce has the responsibility of showing the attitude to adapt the change, honesty and sincerity to help the company achieve the end state goal. Employees are more likely to respond when they are rewarded for what they are doing .(Kinicki &Kreitner,2004). Employees have to have the drive and motivation to help the senior team introduce the change needed for the survival of the company. "Companies no longer have a choice---they must change to survive."(Kinincki &Kreitner,2004).

End-State Vision

Gene one has a vision to grow and expand the capital of the company to survive the market and its trends. Globalization has put all companies under the stress of change and survival with financial strain. Gene one has envisioned a big change of going public to handle the financial strain. Company has a vision to launch an IPO in a short span after gaining the confidence of employees and investors. Company has to do needed benchmarking before implementing the change.

Gap Analysis

Gene one has a goal of going public with the launch of an IPO. The problem is the gap between the present situation and end state goal. The CEO has to have a transformational leadership style to motivate the team and employees to help him achieve the goal. In Transformational leadership ,a leader communicates a vision and inspires the employees to strive for that vision.(McShane & VonGlinow,2005). The senior team has some internal conflicts resulting in resentment and resignations of few. The CEO and Senior team needs to have strategic management with conflict resolution through effective organizational and communication skills to help company achieve the mission.

Going Public with launch of an IPO needs benchmarking and strategic planning and Gene One at present is lacking in that and needs to develop a strategic plan to help the company achieve its goal. " Strategic planning involves Vision, Mission and Values. The process includes evaluating the current situation, defining the goals and objectives and mapping a possible route to achieve those goals." (Wikepedia,2007). Hence company needs to map the best possible routes to reach the goal after assessing the present situation.

Conclusion

Gene One has been able to identify the Issues and establish the solutions to the Issues to resolve those. In order to do that Gene One has to use a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.) Goals to achieve success in the business world.
