Drama GCSE Paragraph - Supporting Evidence

Name: Lewis Wills

Candidate number:

The stimulus we have chosen was the song ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Jodi Mitchell. This stimulus gave us many ideas such as, the main words that were repeated ‘Paved Paradise’ this brought the ideas of capitalism, ruling, destruction, taking over of land. The main one that stood out to me was capitalism. A lot of research was carried out by watching the news and how politics has evolved around Donald Trump, and how he is changing America. We went off individually and looked at different aspects of Trumps speeches and how he aims to run his country. This then brought on the idea of comparing modern-day ideas and how great leaders from generations ago had an impact onto our modern day. This helped us develop the lot and characterisation as we were each assigned a leader of big importance, we chose Ghandi, Mandela, Parks, Lincoln and Pankhurst.  We believed these characters from history symbolise key principles such as slavery and woman’s rights, they all has a strong focus and impact on the future, comparing them to Trump was easier as he has come across as a poor leader with some of the comments made in his speeches. I came up with the idea to compare Trump to other leaders who has a influence on the world. My main idea that I contributed was to have Trump as a non-verbal role I thought this was best for the piece because this allows our chosen leaders from the past to tell their stories and not be controlled by Trump they can all tell them individually and allows them to say how the influenced on our modern-day. I assisted many other ideas throughout the piece for example I gave the idea for the narrator to talk about the contrast Trump and the other leaders to add the clear meaning.

Drama GCSE Paragraph 2

Our chosen practitioner was Brecht. We specifically chose his style because we wanted to portray a strong political message. The first technique we used was multi-role to display the contrast in character and to make our practitioner choice clear. We used multi-role as this shows contrast in character, so this then brought up our marks up as it shows difference. Secondly, we used the technique of placards we used placards through our piece as this is a very Brecht technique showing the meaning towards the audience, also it was key we had 4 techniques or more in our piece and we found that this would be an easier one as we had many bold moments we could use placards to show meaning. Next, we used episodic scenes as this allowed us to move from idea to idea smoothly, this also allowed us to be able to put across many different meanings at one time, so it was easier to then keep our piece in the time limit we were given. Finally, in the photos given we use the technique of symbolism. This is used in our piece so then we can put our point across in a confident and meaningful way. This is when Ghandi is being killed, we thought this was the best choice for symbolism as it shows to the audience that we are capable to then go and put across strong points with meaning but not make it silly and really show how people would have felt in such a time. These all have had a big impact on the performance but another technique we used a lot was the narrator. We used this so that when we were putting across our point it was put across by a neutral personal so then we were able to then go and put across our point before it go mixed up as they were another character a short time ago.
