My Assessment of

Born to be Good?

Contemporary Issues in American Business (SOC101)

On a day to day basis people from all walks of life are given the opportunity to express some sort of kindness for another individual who appears to be in need of some help whether it be as simple as opening a door for someone to the other extreme of helping someone whose life is in danger. The study conducted by Celia Kitzinger shows many different scenarios examining ones morals and reasons behind making the decision to help or ignore a situation.

I felt the studies showed that most people help for something in return or want to be recognized for doing something good for someone else. I think people truly do want to believe that if they are a good person and help someone in a time of need - someone would do the same for them one day.

I live what many of my friends call "life in a bubble". I still have the illusion that helping people just for the sake of being a good person will make a difference.

I agreed with what Lawrence Kohlberg proposed that children learn by what they see. I try and instill in my children that helping others less fortunate is a responsibility each one of us has. Treat others how you want to be treated.

I am a person who likes to make things right. An ordinary sense of care and responsibility for each other should be a part of all of us. The bottom line that keeps a family together through many crises and disagreements is that members understand they are loved and they, in turn, love the others in the family. That is the bottom line for a community too. We all have days when we questions whether helping each other is a good or bad thing. But instead of thinking your little part will do nothing it might make the world of difference for one person.
