Supply Chain Management

Part I

Benton-Cooper Medical Center needs a keen attention in each process in order to come up with a sustainable solution for as far as the effectiveness of the entire process is concerned. Before coming into any conclusion, the capacity should be calculated before looking at the bottleneck of the process. The capacity is calculated in each and every station of the screening process in Benton-Cooper Medical Center (BCMC) should be considered.  The technician is doing many duties which is one of the factors causing the backlog. After picking the client he has to pass him or her in different steps before the real screening. After the screening he has to print the MRI films and escort the client before picking another one. On the other hand

Part II

When finding the bottleneck we should also calculate capacity which equals to m / processing time whereby m refers to the number of resources and in this case it is workers being deployed in the station. For example, in this case one worker needs 16.5 minutes to go through the tunnel process. Therefore the capacity of the magnetic resonance image is 1/16.5 per minute or 2 tunnel processes per 33 minutes. If there are two technicians on the same clinic, the capacity increases to 2/16.5 per minute or 4 scans per hour. However, bottleneck is the step in a flow diagram which has the lowest capacity. In other words, it may be also referred as the weakest link in a process. In our case bottleneck the step taking the longest processing time is the screening process which is 30 minutes. It is essential to consider the capacities of the stages before making a decision. The bottleneck in this clinic, is 1/30 (i.e. the screening process is one scan for 30 min)booking office on the aspect of making proper appointments and the aspect of printing sheets and the transcription department for taking long. To justify the decision, we need to also work on utilization which will tells us, whether a resource is being utilized effectively. It is expressed as a percentage between 0% and 100%. It is therefore calculated by dividing the flow rate by capacity.
