YELL AND SCREAM

When life is perfect there is this feeling of overwhelming smiles. Like I want to scream or yell just because my life is so incredibly perfect. I felt this way the summer of 2002 at Lutherdale Bible Camp. But what is weird is that I don't know what makes it so perfect. Like what is the real difference from here to there? There I have this feeling of being so incredibly close to everything. As opposed to being to being in the real world, hearing and seeing what really goes on. When I was at camp I feel like I am really special. Like people wanted me to be there, and want to get to know me and just want to be around me. Of course I have plenty of friends and family at my house, but the people there are somewhat different. They make it seem like I am important.

When I open my eyes and see the bottom of the top bunk I think to myself, "day one of week five." At 7:00, the alarm goes off and I heard the grumbling of eight junior high girls as they start to slowly climb out of their beds half awake. "Rise and shine and give God the glory glory." As my typical morning song continues, I get eight sets of glares from my campers. For some reason it just makes me smile. "I wish I had my blow dryer." "I really want my make up." The usual teenage comment I hear the first day. "Five minutes to finish getting ready before Alpha!" I yell, "I'll meet everyone out side of the cabin!" I found my way outside Mt. Horeb cabin sitting on the picnic table just smiling to myself for no particular reason.

During our little stroll down the hill toward the lake to 'God Is Here,' my campers were chatting and giggling. "What is God Is Here?" asked Megan. "It's a spot just down a ways overlooking the lake. There is a huge wooden cross behind a place for a campfire. Printed evenly in yellow paint across is the phrase 'God Is Here.' This is the place where 4 people prayed Lutherdale into being." We joined the 75 plus campers on the ten foot 2x4s. During Alpha, it is a time to motivate all the campers for the day and introduce the theme. I along with five other counselors went to lead Alpha. We did the Morning Song, which is a high energetic, five minute exercise, song, and dance with many actions. I loved looking at all the campers jumping and dancing as the song got faster and faster. I loved showing them that it is okay to act a bit silly sometimes.

After breakfast, my campers split up and started ABCs (activity by choice). I grabbed my football and walked over to lower field for my football ABC. As I waited for my campers that signed up for this ABC, I couldn't help but think about the past five weeks of this ABC and hope that the next five would be just as wonderful. "I'm the quarterback!" Then I turned around and saw campers charging my way. I lined them all up and explained a few rules then we started some football. Since there where an uneven number of campers, I was appointed to be on both sides. Running up and down our make believe field, was the best hour ever. I just could not believe that everyone was getting along so well. Just seeing all the similes and laughing the whole entire time, made me never want to leave this moment. The best part was that it really didn't matter who won the game or who got the
