As I read the book Beloved, there was something that just kept shooting through my mind hearing about the ghosts from the past. This means something referring to the past that you might have done spontaneously and didn't expect it to come back, thinking you had taken care of it, soon comes back to haunt you.

I think this is what Sethe might have been thinking about when one day she started "literally" getting haunted by the ghost of her strangled child. We must ask ourselves this, could it be her just going mad, or is she really seeing some ghost? Not all is calm around this house because Sethe's other daughter Denver starts to have sightings too of this girl like entity. Soon, Sethe starts to discover that this might be her other daughter that she strangled a long time ago fearing for her child's future with slavery. Sethe killed her thinking it was the best and only choice at that time. Now there are two people seeing this ghost from the past and it appears that they aren't totally mad, or are they? In on part of the story there is a man named Paul D. that sort of takes care of Sethe and does chores around the house. Not only does he help, but also starts falling in love with Sethe. Once Beloved starts to find out about his doings, she fears that he is trying to take Sethe away from her and starts plotting her revenge to get him away from Sethe for good. Beloved seduces Paul D into sexual actions and that eventually scares him away for a while fearing Beloved's actions on Sethe.

This "ghost" from the past is a perfect representation of how the past can come back and bite you in the ass. Not only was Sethe trying to collect herself from going mad but also tries helping others around her in the process and they themselves like Baby Suggs see the troubles that Sethe is going through.

Try to understand the situation from Beloveds point of view. She has this vendetta on her mind and has it set on getting back whatever it is that she lost in the past. Thinking about that could drive a person mad but when compared to actual life, it kind of has certain meaning to it for example: people die and don't come back in human form. Maybe this is what Beloved is trying to accomplish by coming back in Human form and taking back what would be so rightfully hers as Sethe's daughter. Like Denver, Beloved also craves attention just like any child would from their parents. Like mentioned before, the ghosts from Sethe's past have now come back to haunt her and seems like the entity has taken her place feeling pretty comfortable like a human would. Being around doing human things.

Around the end of the story you discover that Beloved is feeding
