ever since I remember I’ve been wanting to help others. Whether it was mentally, physically, or socially. Just having the satisfaction of knowing you made that persons life a little bit easier astounds me. The career of a doctor, nurse, oncologist, or anything in that field sparks my interest in such a high level. Right now I am doing advanced math and chemistry in high school and would like to continue with sciences in post secondary. I believe cancer is quite honestly one of the worst diseases this world faces today, with all the innocent people it has taken from this earth too soon. And the thought of finding a cure truly amazes me and I believe a cure can one day be found.

At around the age of 6, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. and of course, at such a young age, I just thought it was a stomach bug. I remember her telling me she was really sick and was going to take medicine that was going to take all her hair, and make her more sick before making her better. And of course, once again I thought nothing of it. Seeing my mother without hair was off, but I didn’t know much more than that. About a year later she was cured. To start a new beginning, we moved out of our house and into a new one for a fresh start. Everything was going well. But I was in the fourth grade at the age of 9 when we found out it was back, and had spread through her lungs and brain. About 6 months later, she passed away. And I can honestly say it was and has been the most heart-wrenching thing I’ve ever had to experience. I am now 16 and it’s been almost 7 years since. It hasn’t been easy, but I feel as if attending this program will help with coping with such a loss, no longer wondering about what it actually is and being able to learn more about what my mother had to experience. I believe cancer research is such an important thing in today’s society because it tears me apart to see anyone else have to go through that experience, and I think
