The Walt Disney Corporation is a huge enterprise, which has shaped the minds of young children all over the world. The company started in the early nineteenth century with an idea and a dream. Walt Disney states, “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing-that it was all started by a mouse” (Walt Disney Quotes). Since 1937, with the release of Disney’s first full length feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney Movies have continued to influence children and their views of women, along their views of relationships. Disney movies have given young girls a distorted view on physical expectations of women and, and an unrealistic view of romantic relationships.

The first stereotype that Disney movies present is the stereotype regarding the physical expectation of women. This gives girl’s a fake idealism of beauty. Most of the Disney movies portray the leading ladies in the same way. The Disney princesses are all thin, have beautiful faces, and have beautiful singing voices. They are also usually very passive. They usually spend their days cleaning and dwelling on how unhappy their current lives are. They sing songs of how “One day my prince will come” (Snow white). This sends an unhealthy message to young girls who haven’t experienced romantic relationships yet. Girls should not be taught that a man alone will make all their problems go away, and give them happiness.

Secondly, Disney falsely portrays romantic relationships. So many girls watch Disney movies and dream of the day when their prince charming will ride up to their doorstep and proclaim their love. This is not realistic and will not happen in real life. Secondly, Disney teaches young girls about love at first sight. It gives girls the impression that they will know they have found the one the moment they look into each other’s eyes. This is very unrealistic.
