The Greek Goddess - Athena

The greek goddess that I chose was Athena because I really liked her name. The name Athena means the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. Athena is associated with the olive tree and the owl. She was believed to be born from her father's forehead and to have no mother. She is one of the most powerful forces on Mount Olympus, representing war. Athena is a complex figure of strength and reflection, a powerful source for the idea of the goddess as a balance of nature and humanity.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. Athena has shoulder length blonde hair, an oval face, and referred to have been “gray-eyed”. Athena also often is depicted with an owl sitting on one of her shoulders. Athena has been referred to as having a male figure with broad shoulders. Athena had no children but did adopt 1 son named Erichthonius. She was depicted as a stately woman armed with a shield and spear. Also wearing a long robe and helmet.

Zeus is Athena's father and he ate Metis when she was pregnant with Athena. Metis gave birth to Athena inside of Zeus then, Athena sprang out, fully grown and dressed in armor out of Zeus’s forehead.

Athena helped Perseus kill Medusa who was a monster with snakes as hair and when someone looked into her eyes the person turned into stone.

Arachne was a beautiful woman who was very talented at weaving and she told people that she was a better weaver then Athena. The gods did not like that Arachne was saying she was a better weaver and because they did not like that, Athena turned her into a spider.

Athena gave the the olive tree to the city of Athens as a gift thats why they named the city after her.
