The Archaeology Research Lab is all about preserving Santa Clara’s historical past. The

Archaeology Research Lab is a University funded institution. People have occupied the area in

and around Santa Clara University for thousands of years, and in the last 20 years, thousands

of artifacts have been recovered on archaeological digs.

Whenever there is a construction project on campus where digging is required, at least

one member of the Archaeology Lab is out there monitoring the dig to insure that anything of

archaeological significance is properly recovered, documented and curated.

The Archaeology Research Lab is a research driven institution, where numerous

research projects take place to better understand the past history of life in St. Clara. The Lab

is also responsible for raising awareness in the University about the areas past historical

significance. The Lab does this by holding numerous exhibits around campus displaying to the

public some of the cultural material that is preserved in the lab. The Lab also raises the

awareness of the area’s history through the co-sponsoring of lectures with local Santa Clara

historians.

The Archaeology Research Lab employs Santa Clara University students to work in the

lab, in processing, curating,
