During the course of American history, there were many events that were influential and important for the independence of the country. I believe that the most important events are: the acceptance of the Declaration of Independence, the Battle of Saratoga, the Treaty of Paris (1783) and the creation of the Constitution.

The Declaration of Independence may be the most important document in our countryЎЇs history. The document is divided into three main parts. The first part explains the basic rights of the people. The second part lists all the wrongs committed by the British and the last declares that the colonies have become the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence showed how much the people wanted freedom from Britain.

Another important event would be the Battle of Saratoga. General Burgoyne was surrounded in the village of Saratoga by the Americans. Realizing that he and his troops were trapped, he surrendered his entire army. The AmericanЎЇs victory was a turning point in the war. It stopped the British threat in New England and encouraged the Americans. Most importantly, it convinced the French to sign a treaty with the United States.

The Treaty of Paris (1783) was what changed the thirteen colonies into the United States. In the treaty, the British agreed to recognize the U.S. as an independent nation. Also, the Americans agreed to pay for damages done to Loyalists for property loss in the war. The treaty is ratified on April 15, 1783.

The final important event that shaped our countryЎЇs history is the creation of the Constitution. The Constitution was formed after the failure of the countryЎЇs first government, the Articles of Confederation. People disliked the Constitution at first because they feared a strong central government and also because it did not list the peopleЎЇs rights. The Constitution is based on a set
