Introduction

The authors chose to write an internet plan for a proposed small business that consults about wireless networks to its customers and also installs new networks, if desired. This business can serve the SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) community, and larger businesses in our market area. We imagine the market area to be southern New England, with a primary focus on the Metropolitan Boston area, although the basic organization principles could be applied in any market area. In this paper we will discuss the products we will use, the services we will provide, our operations and our organization. We will also discuss how the Internet can be made to serve our objectives, and help us with communication, marketing and customer service.

Products

Working in the business of wireless networks means that we are familiar with products, recommend appropriate products to the customers, and even install them if that is what the customer needs. These are the main components for the networks:

* ADSL Wall Mount Filter

* Broadband Cable/DSL Router

* Wireless Access Point and Router

* Switch

* PCI Wireless Network Card (desktop)

* PCMCIA Wireless Network Card (notebook)

* Wireless Print Server

* CAT 5/6 Cables

Certain brands are already well known in the marketplace. Customers interested in wireless networks will probably already be aware of the brand names from major manufacturers. We have corporate alliances with CDW, ZONES, and Micro Warehouse as vendors. We can choose any manufacturer's products for each unique case but the following short list displays some of the products we know we'll be using and recommending:

* Belkin

* D-Link

* Linksys

* CISCO

Wireless Network Services

Our company provides Wireless Consultation service for everyone. We can assist with your upfront network design and deployment needs and help improve your wireless network quality. We can troubleshoot and resolve the problems. Our Consultants are experts, analytical and professional. Here's what we do:

* Assessment

* Design

* Deployment

* Emergency Response

First, we plan the customer's wireless infrastructure with a site assessment and site survey. The result of a site survey is a blueprint for your Wireless local area network, WLAN. We use radio frequency modeling to survey the needs of your site. This is the first step towards designing a solution that fits your needs. Radio frequency modeling allows us to model expected network bandwidth and latency requirements, ensuring your wireless network performs as expected.

Secondly, we design the project to ensure maximum availability of essential network traffic, prioritization, and management of your wireless network. In addition to the basic architecture, we take into account security that involves setting security policies, identify potential risks and determine best methods to lessen those risks.

After a final WLAN design has been approved, we enter the network deployment phase. It consists of hardware and software procurement, wireless network installation, optimization, and testing. We provide services that ensure effective network performance, network up-time, and network security monitoring.

When the network goes down or experiences serious impairment our Emergency Response service come will get it up and running in the shortest time possible. This is crucial in minimizing the damaging impact on a customer's business. We quickly arrive at the site and quickly determine the source of the problem and provide a viable solution.

Operations

The essence of our operations is our four business partners, Sanjit Mandal, Patrick Harrington, Jay Fulton and John Bernard, who are connected by a web of information processes. Each partner provides leadership in his area of strength, but all cooperate in reaching the revenue goal. As we phrase it, "goals rule roles." Sanjit has practice pricing, purchasing and deploying network products. Patrick has extensive hands on experience with a local area network, and user driven requests. John has real-life experience in high security research organizations, and experience with banking procedures. Jay has extensive knowledge of the telecommunications and data communications tools that businesses buy and use. All four are capable of initial consultations, in which we will find out what the customer needs to achieve, and what equipment the customer already possesses. We require a deposit upon the initial visit, and collect money at each significant stage of the process. We accept purchase orders from large corporations. For qualified customers we will offer a monthly financing plan.

Customers can contact us via our website, our toll-free number, e-mail or personal contact. We employ a guest book, email links, free information about wireless connectivity, web calendars, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). Internally we use e-mail, MS Office Software for communications and printed forms. We maintain a company web-based calendar, a contact database, and a database of financial transactions. We meet physically each week and teleconference for all other midweek needs. Our presentations to customers include a cover letter, company information, the contract, and Visio drawings that represent the layout of the new wireless network.

Organization

We have a thorough knowledge of the inter-relationship of network devices, design, and traffic that enables us to quickly resolve issues, increase network performance, and optimize the benefits of existing infrastructure. Regardless of what stage your network is in, from design, performance assessment, technology adoption or unexpected downtime, our consultants provide the technical expertise required to maximize the efficiencies of the network, saving the client time and money. We will address all phases of the network and security management cycle: Assessment, Design, Deployment, and Emergency Response.
