The geographical location is important in any kind of story whether its novella or novel or even Drama. It explains a lot to the reader and provides him a full image to imagine the events. Therefore, this essay aim is to discuss the differences of the geographical location, the west egg and the valley of ashes. Each one of them symbolizes something, which present in the novel of the great Gatsby and written by the great famous writer Scott Fitzgerald’s.

To start, the west egg located in New York City, where newly rich people settled, bought or built huge houses to show off their new wealth, and as a result of that they spent lots money on anything. The area represents the new money people such as Gatsby he collected his money in only 5 years and since then, he threw a party every day. The people in the west egg are less-elegant and more innocence type of people, as they haven't been consumed by material things, money, and greed their whole lives. Also they are less fashionable. Most of the people that live in the West Egg have morals and ethics to live by, rather than their own money, such as Nick Carraway. After Nick does Gatsby the favor of reuniting him with Daisy, he offers Nick the chance to take part in Gatsby's business and earn more money. Even though Nick struggles to sell bonds, he refused, realizing that Gatsby was only returning the favor. This shows that Nick has dignity.

Secondly, the valley of ashes separates the west egg and the east egg. It’s dirty, dark and its symbolizes the lower class , poverty and hopelessness such as Wilson and his wife Myrtle. Also, it represents the lost hopes and dreams of people who have failed to live the American dream. Furthermore, the relationship between Tom and George Wilson showed us how the rich people treated them. The rich people always included themselves with them for their pleasure. For examples, Tom pretended to be friend with Wilson and then he had an affair with his wife who was sick of being poor person and look forward to be Toms wife, she couldn’t see the face that Tom was just having affair with her for pleasure or maybe she did, but she ignore it so she can have hope to be rich as she always dreamed to.
