The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) led 13 colonies of North America separated from British Empire, and finally founded the United States of America. However, the war had already begun before the first gun shot in Lexington and Concord. It was led by a series of events and ideas. I think the five most important events which led the British colonies and England to the revolutionary war were the Navigation Acts, the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening, the French and Indian War, the Stamp Acts and the Boston Tea Party.

The Navigation Acts (1660) was designed to expand and develop English local industries, and to take over other European trade, especially Dutch trade. It imposed severe restrictions on the colonial trade; the colonists were only allowed to trade with England and sell English goods, which was very inconvenient for colonial trade. It caused the colonists’ dissatisfaction and complaint with the English government. Therefore, the Navigation Acts also became the potential fuse of the explosion of American Revolutionary War.

During the Enlightenment (1700s вЂ" 1800s), scientists and philosophers became to believe that the world is following a nature laws rather god. On the other hand, the emotionalism and spread across the colonies, this called the first Great Awakening. The Enlightenment helped people created their observation skill and individual abilities of thinking and analyzing. The Great Awakening awaked limited colonial association, and the preachers spread the opinion that colonists were same group of people and faced the same problems, such as the Indians and unequal status with England. The Enlightenment and the Great Awakening made the colonists believe their liberty, and created a sense of “what it meant to be an American”. They grew the mental resistance among the colonists against their mother country.

From year 1756 to 1763, England and French had a seven years war fighting for the colonies; it was called the French and Indian War. England defeated French, and doubled its land. However, the reward became a burden of England; in order to protect the new colonies, England needed lots of money to grow up the military which they could not offer.
