My Philosophy of Education

In developing my philosophy of education I had to determine what beliefs, ideas, and expectations I have about the educational process, as a prospective teacher. I believe that I am a teacher I am to be a facilitator to the leaning process and not a dictator. My purpose in the classroom is to provide boundaries, information, resources and opportunities to allow students to learn in wholesome and safe environment. The more involved the student is in the learning process the more effective and meaningful the knowledge will be. I feel that I am responsible for providing opportunities for students to gather facts and apply knowledge in a manner that will enable them to be inquisitive eager students who will become productive members of the society.

When teaching, one has to be flexible in the methods because every student learns differently. Some students are hands-on learners, some need visual aids, some learn better by reading, and some only need to hear things. In my experiences I have found it id easier to learn things when I know they are applied in everyday life. If you think you are never going to use something then you won't be as interested in learning it. To be a effective teacher, I believe one needs to incorporate all of these techniques into their lessons. By doing this, one can reach all of the students and the lesson is more interesting.

As a teacher I hope to be able to develop my skills to a point that I can be very flexible and diverse with all my teaching methods. I hope that my students will leaving having learned lessons they can use throughout their life. Being a teacher is a special job and I feel that I have the skills and knowledge to pursue my goal.
